    Bordeaux

    The world capital of wine

Bordeaux is famous for world-renowned wines, rich tradition and the sweet art of living. Bienvenue!

    A Royal Classification

Winemaking in Bordeaux dates back to the 1st century AD. It was none other than the ancient Romans who planted their vines around what is now Saint-Émilion. By the Middle Ages, wines from Bordeaux had already become an international export success. The English in particular developed a taste for these French wines! In fact, we have them to thank for the term "Claret" (a synonym for a light, pale red wine). In 1855, Napoleon III had the Bordeaux Classification created, which remains the standard to this day. It organises the best châteaus into a hierarchical system. The most coveted title: "Grand Cru Classé" – the award for top-quality wines!

The art of assemblageThe art of assemblage describes the combination of several grape varieties to produce a wine that is as balanced, complex and harmonious as possible. A typical Bordeaux assemblage: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The advantages of each grape are utilised. Their combination makes each wine unique. This craft is considered extremely demanding. Bordeaux is regarded worldwide as its cradle.le chic françaisThose who fear that Bordeaux has only vineyards and châteaux to offer can rest assured! Art in the classical sense can be found in the Musée des Beaux-Arts. The Darwin Ecosystème is loud and urban: street art, concept stores and restaurants have found a home in the old military halls in the La Bastide district, and the credit cards are glowing on Rue Notre-Dame. The street, which even has its own Instagram account, is lined with galleries, vintage shops and small cafés. You can enjoy the French way of life for free as you stroll along.
Bordeaux bellyThe Marché des Capucins is the city's most famous market and is affectionately known by locals as le ventre de Bordeaux, or Bordeaux belly. A lively place full of regional products, spices, fish, meat, cheese, pastries, wine and street food. Our recommendation for the original savoir-vivre: join the locals for breakfast of fresh oysters with white wine. Le vin, c'est la vie.
