Starting college, particularly if you’re moving out of home for the first time, can be a daunting experience.
There are a million and one things to get used to but one of the major ones is figuring out how to keep yourself fed without spending all your money on takeaways…
While there’s always room for a treat here and there, it’s not sustainable for your health or bank balance so you need to learn to cook for yourself. It doesn’t come naturally to everybody but if I’m capable of learning, so are you and being organised is the key!
The best advice I can give is to plan your meals at the start of the week and then do your shop to make sure you have everything you’ll need – an empty cupboard/ fridge will make it harder to avoid an unhealthy choice so keep them stocked with things that you like to eat.
Simple and effective meals like chicken breast and wholemeal pasta with a nice tomato sauce can be extremely satisfying without the need for any real culinary skills so this is one of my go-to meals. It’s perfect for recovery after a hard training session and I normally cook more than I need so I can eat it for lunch the next day – very handy!
