The #SeriousSupport Schools Programme is back!

After a year's delay, we are delighted to announce that the LGFA backed secondary school athlete mentor programme returns for the 2021/22 school year.

Delivered in conjunction with Youth Sport Trust, and with a nationwide team of inter county players at the ready, we are committed to teaching junior cycle students about the long-term physical and mental health benefits of playing ladies’ Gaelic football and aim to reduce the numbers of 12-15 year olds dropping out as a result. Our athlete mentors will host workshops and take training sessions in the chosen schools in each county throughout the school year to deliver the programme. Added to that, each of the winning schools will receive a brand new set of jerseys for their ladies’ football team.

The nomination period has now closed. The chosen schools will be offered a place on the programme in the coming weeks and the full list of schools will be announced in November.

Ladies School Competition

Level The Playing Field

Since 2016, Lidl has brought #SeriousSupport to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and its members on a local and national level by investing over €5million. During this time, we have seen a shift in attitudes towards the game and support rising to an all-time high with multiple attendance records broken. And yet a significant gap still exists between ladies Gaelic footballers and their male counterparts at all levels of the game.

“Skerries Harps and Dublin forward Lyndsey Davey receives a cheque for €20,000 from Trevor Dawson, Lidl Balbriggan”

At Lidl, we want to create change for this and future generations of LGFA stars by helping them to Level The Playing Field. That’s why we introduced the LGFA stamp card club fundraising initiative. The initiative, launched in February 2021, provided every single club in Ireland with the opportunity to raise up to €20,000 by collecting stamps on the Lidl Plus app.
In total, over €375,000 in cash funding and new jerseys were awarded to clubs with the 4 provincial winners receiving the top prize of €20,000 – they are Skerries Harps (Dublin), Kinsale (Cork), St John’s (Sligo), and Bun Dobhrain (Donegal). Now that is #SeriousSupport.”

Behind The Scenes

GO BEHIND THE SCENES

Shot on location in Glendalough, Co. Wicklow way back in early 2020, the campaign is a visual representation of the uphill battle that ladies Gaelic footballers and women in sport face in striving for equality. We went behind the scenes to capture the atmosphere and camaraderie among the players as they give everything to Level The Playing Field.
