Advice for staying mentally strong during exercise;

Think of your mind and body as two different people and realise that, during exercise, our mind plays tricks on us and tells us we can’t do it. Challenge that voice! Think about how after this, everything will be easy and I will feel even better for staying strong and pushing through no matter the intensity.

Top tip to help enjoy exercise more (or fool yourself into thinking you are!);

For starters I always say smiling. It sounds so simple but it makes you feel great. Try it the next time you are exercising and make a conscious effort to do it with a grin. GAME CHANGER.

What advice would you give to any woman who feels it’s too late to start, or return to, a physical activity routine and make it part of their lives?

As a qualified physio I can tell you this, it is never too late to start exercising. Being physically active reduces your risk of major illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer by up to 50%. For us women, it’s key that we look after our bone health as we age and go through menopause. Exercise plays a key role in this along with other factors like our diet.

Why is it important for you to be involved in the Lidl Moves for 20x20 campaign?

I know all too well how we as women can prioritise everything but ourselves. Looking after our physical and mental health and well-being by giving ourselves little moments of self-care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity! This is a fantastic campaign and the perfect reminder for women (myself included) to put themselves on that to do list.

Why is it important for you to be involved in the Lidl Moves for 20x20 campaign?

There’s a stereotypical assumption that women who exercise are young and skinny; they look amazing in workout gear and they have boundless energy. I want to show that size isn’t a barrier to exercise. Setting aside just a few minutes each day makes a world of difference to me and consequently everything else I set my mind to.
